The Defence Headquarters has stated that a planned withdrawal of US military personnel will not affect the security partnership between Nigeria and the United States. About 200 personnel were deployed to support operations against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats. They provided intelligence, surveillance, training, and logistics support.

The Director of Defence Information disclosed this information at a joint security news briefing. According to him, the withdrawal should not be seen as a breakdown in the Nigeria-US security relationship. The relationship remains strong and mutually beneficial.
