External reserves have reached a new high, totaling $54.08 billion. This is the highest level in nearly 18 years, surpassing the Central Bank of Nigeria's projection for the end of 2026. The latest figure was recorded on September 3, showing an increase from the previous days.

The reserves have grown by approximately $1.42 billion since August 19 and by about $8.52 billion year-to-date. This represents an 18.7 per cent increase in just over eight months. The previous highest level was recorded on December 22, 2008, when the reserves stood at about $54.21 billion.
