The Federal Government has reported a significant loss in potential value from cocoa. Nigeria loses about $2 billion annually due to underutilised processing capacity. Cocoa production is currently stuck at 300kg per hectare annually, despite the availability of improved seedlings. The country's installed cocoa processing capacity is around 2,000 tonnes annually.

Further information on this issue was discussed at a recent conference. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security provided details on the situation.

More information on the cocoa industry and its challenges can be found through the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria and other relevant sources.
