Diphtheria has resulted in two fatalities out of five laboratory-confirmed cases. The disease is a severe bacterial infection that affects the nose, throat, and occasionally the skin. Early symptoms include fever, cough, and catarrh.

A total of 15 suspected cases were investigated, with five confirmed through laboratory testing. Several patients have been successfully treated and discharged.
